Updated April 2018. Each year we make the 1250 km road trip north from Coolum Beach to attend the Palm Creek Folk Festival in North Queensland. We usually drive the Bruce Highway and free camp along the way. You might like to read about Free and Low Cost Camping on the Bruce Highway here.
Palm Creek Update
If you’re joining us for the event head 40km south of Townsville and take the second right after Palm Creek bridge, to Mountain View Lake Eco Park where the Best Little Festival in the North takes place.

Theme for Palm Creek Folk Festival 2018
The Theme for Palm Creek Festival in 2018 is Rainbows, so start thinking about clothing and tent decorations now.
The Venue – Mountain View Lake Eco Park
The lake has been practically dry for several years, but in early 2018 Townsville had a lot, I mean an extreme amount, of rain. The Ross River Dam went from 15% full to 97% full in a few weeks.
In the past I’ve predicted Mountain View Lake having water in it for the festival and been wrong. This year I’m confident there will be water in the Lake for Palm Creek 2018 Festival.
Palm Creek Camping.
Daughter and I camp at the Palm Creek Festival for the week-end. The first year I erected the tents myself which was a bit of a stretch without tent boss Marty along. As the weather was so beautiful I didn’t bother securing the tent flies, an oversight which saw me bashing tent pegs in during a midnight downpour.
I’m a fast learner though and last year I brought Marty along for the pre-event set up. I’ll be doing the same this year.
In 2017 and again in 2018 there the charge per/day/tent to set up prior to the event, payable at the gate on arrival is $10. I recommend doing this to escape the first day after-work crush.
Who Runs the Festival?
Volunteers from the Townsville Folk & Acoustic Music Club Inc. organise the event. This non-profit festival is in it’s 27th year.

Palm Creek Festival Dates for 2018
7th to 10th June, 2018.
What’s On at Palm Creek Folk Festival
In 2017 there were more than 100 performers over three stages, supported by acoustic jams, and no less than 22 workshops including dance, singing, hula hopping, drumming, aerial skills, stomp boxing, films, choir and environment.
I’m anticipating 2018 will be even better!
The 2018 Folk Festival theme is rainbows, but as you can see anything goes at Palm Creek Queensland.
There are some great food vendors on site. Our Go To is Govindas Pure Vegetarian (Hare Krishnas) as daughter is Vegan. There are other tasty healthy options available including Gluten Free. The full list of stalls will be displayed on the Palm Creek Facebook Page when finalised.
Alcohol is not sold at the venue but you can BYO. It’s a good idea to arrive with a stock of ice, although it can be purchased on site from Thursday evening.
We try to re-heat one home cooked meal and bring our own snacks, but purchase Espressos and the rest of our meals on-site. Everyone joins together to make it a great week-end.
Camp fires are allowed but must be contained in a b.y.o brazier.
Palm Creek Folk Festival Tickets and Information.
We purchased early-bird tickets, but online sales close 8pm Tuesday night 5th June 2018, after which time they’ll be available at the gate. Please check in early June to confirm the cut-off date.
Palm Creek Folk Festival is a family friendly event but no pets allowed folks.
