Crowds of Fish Fillets Drying near Battambang Cambodia

Fantastic Friday and Cambodian Fish Fillets drying in the Sun

This Fantastic Friday post is for the many people around the world who eat fish for dinner every Friday.

Our noses led us to the next stop on our Tuk Tuk Discovery Tour from Battambang in CAMBODIA.  A roadside shed held wiffy vats of fermenting grey fish while beside them out in the open air, were crowds of pretty orange and silver fish fillets, lined up like sun worshippers on the Costa del Sol.

Crowds of Fish Fillets Drying Have a Fantastic Friday.

Sun worshippers on the Costa del Sol – Lol! Oh gosh I bet the smell was rank. But it’s the finished product which can be good, hey!

These little fellas themselves did not smell, but the vats of fermenting fish certainly did. Whenever I add a tablespoon of fish sauce to a curry, I think of how it is made 🙂

I was quite surprised by the orange. I guess that was their natural colour of their flesh.

I can imagine your nose would do just the trick! They’re very brightly coloured, though – so without the accompanying scent they look great to me.

From the color, I would have guessed flowers, not fish but I’m sure the smell would’ve clued me in.

The fish don’t even look like fish…its almost like flowers laying in the sun!! All I could think of is the health issues with having food out in the sun, yet at the same time its so very pretty 🙂

I know they look so pretty. I don’t know if the flesh is naturally orange or if they have done something to them.
