Vietnamese Hmong girls chatting at Cat Cat near Sapa

A request for photos from Vietnam got me scurrying through my files.  This was taken in Cat Cat Village an easy 2 km walk downhill from Sapa in the far north-west of Vietnam.  Cat Cat is a Hmong village and the girls were taking time out in-between dance performances.

I like this picture very much. 🙂 When I lived in California I worked for an after school club for Hmong immigrant children. We are still friends now that they’re grown up. 🙂

Hi Krista, I did not think about there being a Hmong club in California, but of course there are lots of Asian immigrants in U.S.A., so of course there is!

I have spent time with Hill Tribe refugees in Thailand. I was surprised to discover we have a thriving Hmong community here in Cairns.

Hi Danielle, Where were the refugees from in Thailand? It is amazing that Cairns has a Hmong Community as well! There must be lots of places with Hmong Communities. In Sapa the Hmong women have a real knack for learning languages (like Enlgish!) and are quite entreprenurial with their selling.

This is one area I didn’t get to visit when I was in Vietnam. I have a very good reason to go back 🙂

Hi Samuel, I really enjoyed going to Sapa and Bac Ha. It was so different to what I thought Vietnam was like, and it was even cold! I had to buy a north face jacket ($20) because I had no warm clothes! Cheers Jan
