Sunshine Coast Hinterland towns along the Blackall Ranges are well known Brisbane Weekend Getaways, but when planning romantic weekend getaways like for Valentines Day 2021, don’t overlook Noosa Hinterland towns and Districts like Eumundi, Pomona, Cooran, Kin Kin and Cooroibah. Nestled in sub-tropical Noosa hinterland they are closer to Noosa than the Blackall Ranges and loaded with country charm.

With Valentines Day 2021 falling on Friday 14th February, a romantic long weekend will be the perfect celebration.

It is true that a romantic weekend getaway can be taken at home, but everyone wants to travel and experience something different right now. Even those of us living in South-East Queensland, might not immediately consider these delightful Noosa Hinterland towns.

Noosa some 160 km north of Brisbane, is known for it’s beaches and National Parks, but 30 minutes from Noosa’s Beaches are a flurry of little known country towns begging to be explored.

The name Cooran has aboriginal roots, alluding to tall in the Kabi Language, possibly referring to Mount Cooran or the Moreton Bay Ash Tree.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from 5 pm, Hinterland produces paddock to plate dinners from their Old School Flats 70 acre farm only 1.2 km from the Restaurant. Their veggie garden uses Permaculture values and they raise heritage pigs (making their on bacon) and cattle. I can vouch for their authentic chocolate and chilli ice-cream.

Romantic Weekend Getaways – Eumundi Noosa Hinterland

What to Do in and Around Eumundi

  • Eumundi is the home of the Original Eumundi Markets. Read our Guide Here.
  • Berkelouw Books is an institution on the Sunshine Coast and I defy an avid reader to bypass it. Every visit we make to Eumundi, of which there are many, includes a visit to Berkelouw.
  • Browse Pottery, Crystal and Leather shops.
  • Eumundi has a Swimming Pool, Tennis Courts and a Skate Park.
  • Take a Sunshine Coast Hinterland drive. One of our favourite drives begins at Eumundi, crosses the Bruce Highway and follows the old Bruce Highway (Bunya Road) to Yandina. Yandina Market one of the biggest plant markets on the coast, operates Saturday morning. This is a beautiful and relaxing country drive past acreage and small farms. Plan ahead to Stop at Terella Brewery and Farmyard. – Kids and Dogs Welcome.
  • Have a drink or Counter Meal at Yandina Country Pub.

The Little Red Train Carriage is a happy blend of original 1940’s Guards Carriage, comfortable leather armchairs, luxury linen and a Queen Sized Bed.

The carriage has tea, coffee and fridge, but no kitchen. Eumundi has plenty of eateries to choose from (see above) just a few minutes walk away and Noosa with it’s many cafes and restaurants is a beautiful 20 minutes drive.

There is even a platypus walk on the property (Maroochy River).

Stay in this romantic getaway at Doonan, only 8 km and 8 minutes by car from Eumundi. Enjoy relaxing peace and tranquility in this tiny quaint cottage set on 3 acres of lush bush. You will love views of the large lawn and friendly wildlife from the cottage deck.

This place is for those who love the beach and bustle of Noosa, but like to relax on the deck and listen to the trees rustling. Watch wallabies graze the manicured lawns in late afternoon.

Being situated a distant 100 metres from the host’s home adds to the hideaway ambience.

Romantic Weekend Getaway – Pomona Noosa Hinterland

Where is Pomona?

Approximately 3o minutes from Noosa Heads, Pomona is 6.5 km south of Cooran; 10 km north of Cooroy, and 18 km north of Eumundi. It is the beating heart of the Noosa Biosphere recognized by UNESCO in 2007. It is quite a large country town and my personal favourite. Pomona is well-situated to visit other Hinterland Towns and Noosa.

The Volcanic lava plug Cooroora Mountain is walking distance from Pomona and very visible. The trail network below the Mountain is used by hikers, horse riders and mountain bike riders.

What to Do in Pomona

  • Saturday Morning Pomona Markets
  • Enjoy the Saturday Vibe in the Town Cafes
  • Majestic Silent Movie Theatre
  • Visit Pomona Distillery
  • Climb Mt. Cooroora – The top half of the walk is quite steep. Good shoes and fitness a must. Lovely walk through the bush then plenty of steps and some “haulage” up the steep bits, guided by a chain for several sections. Gloves come in handy.

Where to Eat and Drink at Pomona

Pomona Coffee Shops

For a smallish town, Pomona is blessed with a variety places to eat and drink. Our favourite Coffee Spot is Pomona Village Kitchen in Memorial Avenue. The menu is Japanese Inspired and the Coffee awesome, plus there are side and back dog friendly areas, a vine covered pergola and a huge Kid’s Room.

Pomona Distilling Co.

Showcasing Pomona to the world, Pomona Distilling use local sustainable ingredients and botanicals, sourced from their own or neighbours’ farms, producing a distinct Pomona flavoured spirit. Only the Juniper Berries are imported from Europe.

Laid back during the week, Pomona Gin Distillery comes to life on the week-ends with many people making the trip to dine in the Bistro.

There are romantic seats in the main building while groups are catered for in the barn-like structure out the back. The choice is yours.

Noosa Hinterland Accommodation – Pomona

NIL.

The accommodation chosen is no longer available. I’ve left the Pomona information because it is a great little town to visit.
