The Rotunda Townsville

Townsville Strand Rotunda

Built in 1913, the Townsville Band Stand, now referred to as the Strand Rotunda, was once used to host open air concerts.

You can find Strand Rotunda in Anzac Park between the Strand fountain (the one with illuminated colour changes) and the Garden of Remembrance.  It is across the road from one of my favourite buildings, The Queens Hotel Townsville.  Once a functioning hotel, it is no longer open to the public.

The Rotunda Townsville

Most week-ends there are a few wedding ceremonies at The Rotunda.  There was a celebrant and couple going through their wedding plans on the day I took these photos.

It is a beautiful place to wed.  Casual yet Historic and the surrounding gardens can be used for photographs too.

A nearby small playground will keep the children entertained also.

The Rotunda The Strand Townsville

Strand Rotunda is an evocative reminder of another era but I like that it retains it’s relevancy today.  It adds that interesting nostalgic touch to an event, and at one time guests could have adjourned across the road to the Queens Hotel for drinks to fill the time between ceremony and the wedding breakfast.

Historic wrought iron Strand Rotunda is one of the things to see on Townsville Strand

We got married in our own home on the back verandah and it rained so hard during the ceremony that guests could not hear the Marriage Celebrant over the noise of the rain on the tin roof.  Rain on the wedding day is meant to be good luck and I cannot disagree with that.
