Ani to Kars

Surrounded by Cows at Ani

We were leaving Ani and I wasn’t sure that I wanted to.   Just one last photo to take – the one of the huge Turkish Flag that flew proudly at the entrance.

Maybe we could hire a tent and camp there?  It didn’t seem like anyone would mind.

Just another Travel Daydream flitting through my mind as we left the ruined Once Armenian City on the lonely banks of the Akhurian River in North East Turkey.

When all of a sudden we were stuck in a traffic cow jam.

It started harmlessly enough.  We stopped as the herd came toward us.

But then the Donkey made a run for it.

Hang on.  Forget the Donkey.  Who’s in charge of the herd?

The herd decided to embrace us.

I have never been that close to any animal whilst seated in a car.  I had my window down and could easily have touched them.  I was worried they would knock the side mirror off the car!

Tell me about your close animal encounters.

The Ani visit formed part of our 2013 Eastern Turkey Road Trip.

Gosh Jan, I so would have wanted to Put my hand out of the window to pat them, actually I wonder what would have happened if you got out of the car!!
It kinda looked like the cattle were all looking after themselves. Camping there would have been so much fun 🙂

The cattle did look after themselves Lisa. I never saw cattle dogs like we have in Australia who control and direct the animals. There was usually just one man looking after the herd or flock.

That’s so funny, especially since I thought the herd in your previous post was big. The donkey and the guy chasing him had me laughing. The closest that a large animal has come to my car was a zebra during a drive-thru safari in Texas. The zebra licked my window, and I had to look at dried zebra spit for the rest of the day.

I laughed out loud when you said a zebra licked your window. Maybe he thought you looked tasty 🙂
