The other day I found myself at the corner of Flinders Street East and Wickham Street in Townsville and could not resist taking a photo of the river. It looks at it’s best in the morning – the earlier the better – but I was there about 8 a.m. so the reflections were fast disappearing and the breeze was ruffling the water. At 5.30 a.m. the first of nineteen daily Sealink Ferry departures to Magnetic Island had woken the Breakwater end of the creek, but things were a little sleepier up at the City end.
I hope to focus more on the river in upcoming Townsville posts so you can look forward to lots of watery goodness from Tropical North Queensland.

So serene Jan, I can just hear the clink of the sails. Wow, 19 ferries a day to Magnetic Island – that’s hectic. I think when we were in Townsville in 1983 there was probably only one a day 😉

I read somewhere today that there were 19 but I just double checked it myself and it is 18. My Dad managed the Ferries for a long time and there have always been a few a day. Did you go on one of the old slow boats or one of the fast catamarans Jo?

What a great photo and it paints tranquility, Jan! Now I want to go sailing 🙂

As you know Mike we love the Ocean but we have motorboats not sailboats at our disposal. That doesn’t stop me from dreaming about yachts though – and reading about them – I have a feeling I might actually get seasick in one though 🙁
