Last Tuesday we started a walk through THE QUEENS GARDENS IN TOWNSVILLE. There was still much more to see in the botanical garden so this Tuesday we’re back.
Big Bad Boys
Under the shade of the giants is a chaotic understorey. I christened the pathway beneath “Ginger Alley”.
The Flowers of Ginger Alley
Near the fountain that sometimes works you can find:
Twin Mazes.
A Sunny Bench by the “Fountain”.
More Flowers.
View through a leafy window.
Old Urns.
Children love exploring the hidden corners of the garden, so pick up a picnic lunch from the nearby supermarket, pack the insect repellent and sunscreen and head for the Queens Gardens.
It is Autumn in Townsville, but being in the tropics we do not get the four seasons. Instead we have the “Wet” which is summer and the “Dry” which is winter. Townsville has it’s own microclimate happening which makes it even more confusing. It is warm year round and most of our rain comes comes between November and April, but it is very hit and miss. Our weather today could be Spring weather in the northern hemisphere.
In the spirit of Spring this post is linked to TRAVELING WITH SWEENEY’S SPRING THEMED POST.

Oh my goodness, these are magnificent photos – and certainly do make me think spring!
Jan
Thanks Jackie, I enjoyed reacquainting myself with the Queens Gardens.

My neighbor’s little girl asked me yesterday if I’d climb a coconut tree we were admiring from my porch.
Your photos definitely make me think of spring. I love how red the stalk of the ginger lily is.
Jan
I have ginger plants in my garden at home, they are so rewarding. I am going to look at the stem of the flower now!
Jennie
Missing those tropical plants, especially the gingers!
Jan
I think the pale pink ginger is my favourite, but when we were down at the Sunshine Coast last year Marty bought a blue flowering ginger, so I am waiting to see what that is like.

Ginger flowers are so beautiful. I remember a bouquet my husband gave me on our anniversary in Kauai that had ginger in it. Very special. Pretty pics!
Jan
I grow ginger at home and it tends to take over in a short time. Suited to our climate I guess!

Wow, what a lovely botanical garden. Those “tall straight don’t mess with me trees” look so amazingly enormous. Love the ginger flowers. You right, the second photo in the ginger alley group is not a ginger. It’s called “birds og paradise.” I happen to know it so well bec my mom had plenty of those in her garden:) Happy Spring!
Jan
Thanks Marisol. We have birds of paradise as well but they look different again!
Anita
Beautiful photos! And it is lovely to see what is happening down under when we are getting ready for spring here in Europe.
Jan
Oh, I love Europe in Spring. Originally we intended to be over that way this spring, but have had to delay to Autumn. Thanks for commenting 🙂

You ask “Would anyone like to climb this baby” – I so could see Kyle trying to climb it 🙂
Gosh Gardens are such a great place to explore, and the variety of colours opens up a whole new world.
You have paradise right at your finger tips and so much more! Loving your photos.
Jan
I am sure Kyle would like to try. Scary! I love gardens as you know. Every morning lately I have been taking our dog for a walk on the Strand after I drop B.H. at work. It is cool under the shade of the pacific almond trees, fig trees and palm trees. The ocean is calm in the morning, sometimes like glass. It is so peaceful and we just amble along, she sniffing and me snapping photos! Thanks for your encouragement Lisa.
