Radical Bay Beach Footsteps

Visit Radical Bay Magnetic Island Just 20 minutes from Townsville North Queensland

Radical Bay Magnetic Island was once home to the low key Radical Bay resort – I visited it as a teenager in the 1970’s.  There has been talk of the bay being re-developed but none of the plans have passed Council and so the privately owned access road has fallen into disrepair. Read about it here.

This MAP shows the road to Radical Bay as a broken line on the top right.

As seen through the windscreen of our 4WD.

It is true that the condition of the road to Radical Bay is practically impassable.  Practically, but not totally.  If you do arrive there however you can be fairly sure that your footprints will be the only ones on the sand.

Magnetic Island is a beautiful island off the coast of Townsville Australia.

Oh what a shame that the road has been let go and that no-one is fixing it up.
Magnetic Island is so very pretty, didn’t that very rich Couple from Redcliffe own the resort that was there or was that another Island? I remember reading about the rich couple {they used to own separate homes on the same block} buying an Island and putting a resort on it but it never actually made any money!!

That story does not ring a bell with me Lisa – I think that must be a different island.

If there’s lots of choice of other beaches for the locals to visit then why not leave it the way it is and let the adventurous few enjoy the beach in all of its solitude. Lovely photos.

I must admit that I am leaning toward that line of thinking as well Leigh 🙂

As a tourist, I say yes, fix the road. But if I were a local, I wouldn’t want it to be fixed. 😉
