Rain, Yep that wet stuff that that falls from the sky, the stuff we don’t often see in Townsville, not like on THE PALUMA RANGE.. Nine inches (225mm) in 24 hours of gusty, heavy, slanty, straight, beautiful rain.
Our rain gauge which measures six inches overflowed this morning. How Exciting. This is what living in North Queensland is like.
My husband shifted daughter’s car from the road in the middle of the night (in the pouring rain) in case the road flooded.
Our back yard is all sodden and squishy and the paving blocks are underwater.
Plants are dripping and heavy and in some cases busy storing water for later.
The Giant Maiden Hair Fern has decided to open up new leaves which strangely are always brown.
The sound of rain on the roof and the symphony of frogs and probably cane toads has abated, but the birds are still too wet to sing. I’m feeling all peaceful and happy this Tuesday in Townsville. Time for a Cuppa.
How is Tuesday in your part of the world?
Do you get torrential tropical rain?
I love how green everything is there, Jan! 6 inches??!! Wow…now that is a pour for sure! I hope there was no flooding. And I love the sound of rain….so soothing to me 🙂
This post made me homesick for Cairns. Love that gorgeous tropical rain!
Ha ha Danielle, It would remind you of Cairns. Just because Townsville is set back inside Cape Cleveland all the rain just sails on past us – usually – but not now. Still raining 🙂
Rain is such a treat when you haven’t seen it in a long time. I do not miss the winter rainy season in Vancouver where it felt like it would never end! Here – snow in the forecast.
Ha Ha We live in the exact opposite of climates. Snow is exotic and special for us. Rain in the cold weather is horrible. Our rain is warm and so not really unpleasant to be out in, but when it does rain it pours!
I hate exploring places when it rains :(!!!
Luckily we are at home so we can just enjoy the rain. When we are in south-east Asia I like the wet season when it only rains in the afternoon. Explore in the morning then relax when it rains, plus it cools it down. I definitely do not like rain with cold weather though. YUK.
How is the weather in my part of the world? Incidentally it has also been raining heavily which is rare at this time of the year.
Jan, i must mention I love the plants in your garden – they are definitely enjoying the rain!
I have always wondered how toads and frogs magically appear when it rains, where do they hide when it’s not raining?
It is our rainy season now but Townsville has it’s own dry micro-climate so we don’t get as much rain as other parts of North Queensland. Thanks for compliments on our garden. Our frogs live in the drainpipes and I have dug toads out of the ground quite deep down like 30 cm when it is not rainy season.
Great photos 🙂 I love the vivid colors…
Life in the tropics Lily 🙂
glad that you spent a good Tuesday. For me, always the same routine!
Doesn’t the garden look refreshed! Tuesday was hot here …we’re on our way to another heatwave with quite a few 35C days in a row! The garden could definitely use some rain!
It has rained every day since Tuesday. I will send some your way 🙂
How lovely to have rain – I can just smell it and feel the squish between my toes -as I sit here after a sweltering day with not even a promise of rain in the next month. I love your garden – those big tropical plants make me long for your side of the country!
That’s funny because we are thinking of W.A. 🙂
I’m SO thrilled for you, Jan! How gorgeous your backyard looks. 🙂 We got rain too – not as much as you – but we are overjoyed. 🙂
It makes me feel very happy. I do love tropical rain 🙂
Wow fantastic to see the tropical plants, and colors. Yes I remember the summer storms and all the rain, our days here are warming up and the first signs of Spring are here. xx ciao lisa
It would be so wonderful to have the sun on your home again Lisa. 🙂
so gorgeous to see you have much needed rain. We were meant to get a storm the other day but it went around us!
That happens to us all the time Lisa – so annoying.
