It is no secret that Marty and I lived in North Queensland, Townsville to be precise for 60 years, and that we love all things beachy – boating, fishing, swimming, sandcastles, picnics, beach-combing and relaxing Wongaling Beach Style.
Wongaling Beach, near Mission Beach North Queensland
[pinit]On a RECENT MINI-BREAK at Mission Wongaling Beach we enjoyed our favourite beachy pursuit – beach walking. Those long morning and afternoon strolls, gave us time to notice Wongaling Beach Style.
A lot of the beach houses were just that – houses on the beach – in real estate terms – absolute beach frontage.
Like this cosy Blue number.
Or my personal favourite – the white house.
Do you ever wonder about living so close to the beach? I know I do.
I wonder if these lucky beach dwellers become ho-hum about the whole beach thing and watch television instead of sunsets?
By the amount of tables and chairs milling around on the beach front, I’m thinking the reply to that question would be in the Negative .
Who wants to lug a chair down to the beach every day for the obligatory Sundowner? Pulleeez. No, it makes sense just to leave it right there for the next day.
The houses above had wonderful verandah views so I can understand their owners not getting their toes sandy, but the houses set way back among the trees?
They definitely needed beach furniture closer to the action.
Like this romantic table for two.
For when friends drop by.
Or a hammock for when sitting upright becomes too difficult.
Or for this beach party host – Mrs. Coconut Head.
Or a swing for when sitting is too tame. Wheee!
This frame took beach furniture to new heights and palm fronds, from the stack behind, could be thrown on top to provide shade at a minute’s notice.

Living on the Gold Coast only 250 metres to the beach, I am definitely a beach person. There is something about a barefoot daily stroll on the beach wading through the shallows that relieves all the stress and tension. The bamboo shade structure looks very similar to ones we saw on West Australian beaches. Great idea for providing shade from the hot sun.

Lucky you Kathy. Beach walks are the best!

Beautiful…

Thanks Lily – love Turkey. 🙂
Krista
I am absolutely a beach person. 🙂 Bear and I talk regularly about moving to the coast one day, somewhere further north, away from the cities. I thoroughly enjoyed this stroll with you. 🙂
Jan
Oooh Krista, You will have to take your goats with you if you move 🙂 I would like to try living “right” on the ocean one day, wouldn’t that be interesting?

I am an ocean person, not neccessarely a beach one. 🙂
My group never visited Townsvill on our tour. Seem like a pity to me now. 🙂
Jan
Yes Townsville has the Brolga as it’s symbol and the town Common is the place to view them. Still we cannot go everywhere!
Mike
Oh my gosh I wish you could have gotten some photos from the front porches of those houses of what their view is like! I like the beach and the mountains (yes, total opposites). Probably a seasonal choice 🙂 And that coconut head is kinda creepy. Good post, Jan 🙂
Jan
The head has a kinda Halloween feel to it doesn’t it Mike?

LOVE it!!! You’ve managed the quirkiness of TNQ beach style with this post. One of my fave things is to wander a tropical beach (or any beach for that matter) & check out the little beach homes & their frontages. Of course I’m beachcombing & checking the ocean at the same time BUT i still enjoy the quirkiness of the inhabitants. 🙂

It was quite a few years since we had been to Mission but it hadn’t changed at all. Just a few trees less, a few more damaged and the shops a little older. It still has the same relaxed friendly vibe about it.
