Winter has arrived in North Queensland, and something is in the (24 degree) air…
Signs of change are appearing daily.
Barriers and seats are appearing road side.
The Flags are up.
The city is getting ready to race, and from now until when the starter’s flag drops at the Townsville V8 Supercars Sucrogen 400 on 5th July, there will be a flurry of activity, barricades and road closures. But by the time the enormous and elaborate B-Double truck convoy arrives amidst a frenzy of horn honking, preparations will be finely tuned.
When the buzz of the enraged Super Bees ceases for the day on Saturday 6th, the race track will rock to the sound of Aussie legends The Hoodoo Gurus and Ian Moss (Ex Cold Chisel). Saturday night Rock is a much loved and patronised feature of the Townsville Sucrogen 400.
You can see some of the action from last years race HERE, and follow all the fun and action of North Queensland this Winter at Twitter #TownsvilleShines, an initiative led by Townsville City Council, Regional Tourism Organisation Townsville Enterprise, Tourism and Events Queensland Regional Councils.
Leave the winter blues behind and soak up some winter sunshine, trackside in Townsville.

It looks so warm and beautiful there!! 🙂 We’re FREEZING down here. Ayiyi. 🙂 My nights and mornings are spent huddled under numerous layers and guzzling hot tea to keep warm. 🙂 Still, I’d rather take an Aussie winter than a Canadian one ANY day. 🙂

It is still warm up here in the day and at night the doona is too hot. Love N.Q. winters 🙂

I have heard how good the Townsville V8 race cars are, but haven’t made it to the event {yet}
How cool is that idea – trading a ticket for a room on gumtree!! now that is the way to go – its a bit like couch surfing.
Jan
I like the idea of trading things on Gumtree too!

I want to be in a Townsville winter — right in that last photo, please — rather than in a Santiago winter, as I am now! Enjoy the weather!

I have to say it is the best time of year in the north. I wore a dress with 3/4 sleeves the other day (winter wardrobe) and had to change before lunch because it was too hot 🙂
