Honeyeater with Bottlebrush Flower

Tuesday in Townsville Sunset and Bird

This Tuesday I have two Townsville photographs to share.  They are not cafe reviews, or Things to Do in Townsville, but just moments from my day. I took this first shot through the windscreen on the way home from our daily walk along The Strand. Ross River Road Sunset in Townsville The next one came about as I was sitting at my computer one morning. I heard sweet bird twitters through the verandah doorway prompting an investigation.  Two parrots were crawling on the Bottlebrush flowers within easy arms reach, but I have quite a few photographs of parrots, so instead my eye was drawn to a butterfly sitting on one of the flowers.  I had tried to photograph this particular butterfly before but frustratingly it wouldn’t stay long enough for me to capture it.  Here was my chance.  I shifted position to take the shot, setting off a chain reaction.  The parrots got spooked and screeched off, the butterfly fluttered away in fright and a Honeyeater took advantage of the situation in an instant – landing neatly onto the flower recently vacated by the Butterfly. Wala – I snapped the honeyeater. Honeyeater with Bottlebrush Flower I think he has a leaf in his mouth.  What do you think? Have you captured any nature photographs recently?

I’m not that quick Mike. I’ll keep a honey pot nearby for future bribes 🙂

    Hi Jan,
It makes you appreciate nature photographers, doesn’t it? How they can capture such perfection must take hours and hours — and surely very sore backs!
You captured this little guy very well! And the morning sun sets him off nicely.

I sometimes wonder if they just set their camera up to take photos continuously! Only joking. I know they lay in wait for hours to get the best shots.

Butterflys are so hard to capture with cameras! Makes one wonder how Photographers manage it.
Love the honeyeater, haven’t seen one in awhile. I so need a weekend of getting out and taking my good camera with me, been awhile since I have used it.
    Love the Townsville Sunset.

We have been having some different sunsets lately and I don’t know how photographers manage to capture butterflies so well either 🙂
