Christmas 2013, christened The Best Christmas Yet by general family consensus, exited the stage, leaving me a few pounds chunkier and the fridge a few bottles of Sav Blanc richer, albeit with a certain odeur de crevettes.
Poinciana trees in flower are special to us. Many years ago living the childfree existence in Western Australia, we flew 3300 km diagonally across Australia, for Christmas in Townsville. Bowled over by the flowering Poincianas lining the streets and gardens we promptly decided to return to Townsville to live. While we can’t credit the move entirely to the Poinciana’s tangerine flowers, they certainly were the catalyst. It must have been our tender years that made us overlook the heat and humidity!
Nearly thirty years ago our garden wedding was held in Townsville in mid December. We intended the tables to be decorated with Poinciana flowers but the vagaries of the day, namely three inches of rain in one hour, banished thoughts of table decorations. No doubt our wedding guests were too transfixed by the muddy mess underfoot to notice the flower free tables.
Wishing you a Happy New Year from Townsville.
What trees are flowering in your part of the world?

Those red flowers are certainly alluring, but I’ll take the jacaranda as my first pick 😉 .
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Jan
I love Jacarandas too, but they are not that common in the North. Maybe they need the cool weather to flower?
Lisa
Gosh what colours! Yeah those flowers are stunning…and Yeah I hear you about the heat/humidity – I remember Mackay and how sweaty I used to get!! But I always lose weight with that type of weather because I can’t each much.
Bugger about the rain on your wedding day, they do say that rain is good luck when getting married?
Jan
It is not as hot now thank goodness. Quite Breezy 🙂
