Townsville has exploded into Spring.
Yesterday I took my camera and my dog for a walk down by the Ross River.
The native bottlebrush trees had shed their workaday demeanour and dressed themselves in flowers. Some surrounded their new flowers with a flush of pale green Spring leaves. These same trees have proven abilities to withstand cyclonic winds – pretty and smart – who knew?
Bottle Brush Subterfuge
In Spring Bottlebrush trees magically appear in hitherto unknown places – like on your own footpath.
Bottle Brush News Flash.
Not all Bottle Brush Flowers are Red – I know!
Hard to believe but here’s the proof.
But wait there’s more.
This miniature form of red flowering bottlebrush (below) was discovered hiding in full view at Townsville Riverway sprouting an indecent amount of gold tipped blooms on a plant barely 30cm tall.
Isn’t there a law against that?
It’s enough to make me See Yellow.
Like this Golden Penda flower once again at Riverway.
Or this strange African looking tree!
Spring holds a Promise.
Just looking at these mango blossoms makes me happy.
Happy because before Christmas – even maybe as early as November – we will he stuffing ourselves with Bowen Mangoes.
It takes a fellow addict to understand that I have this photo on my fridge.
Springtime in Townsville is
Wake up and enjoy the Outdoors before the heat of summer arrives time.
Temperatures are warm, breezes are cool and the water is inviting.
As the above photos were all taken within COOEE of Riverway I shall limit myself to Riverway Reasons to Visit Townsville in Springtime.
Jogging, walking, cycling on the riverside loop track, swimming in the freshwater lagoon pools, dining at C Bar on the lagoons, laying in the shade of huge rain trees, playing in the kids playgrounds (age appropriate activity), free BBQ’s, fishing from the pedestrian bridge, feeding turtles and ducks, checking out art and performances at the RIVERWAY ARTS CENTRE or enjoying drinks and views from the deck at Riverway Tavern.
Visit Townsville in Spring and sniff out the good stuff.
BUDGET TALK
ITARA AND JACANA APARTMENTS are directly on the river at Riverway and are currently renting for $140/week. Ask for a river side apartment as opposed to the (busy) road side.

I never knew there were so many varying colours of Bottlebrush, so I have learnt something. Spring is a very special time and I do love all the blooming gardens around and gorgeous scents.
What a perfect walk with your pooch! And I’m so excited to revel in your pretty spring time season, as it’s now fall and getting cool (soon to be COLD!) on this side of the world!;-)
Yes we are opposite – marching ever forward toward summer.
Townsville looks so pretty in Springtime Jan. The profusion of bottle brush trees must be lovely. The pink colour is my favourite! We get lots in SWA too, mostly red and a pale pink, some lemon, around where we live.
Pink is my favourite too Jo.
Love this flowers…
Beautiful … so rich and vibrant
So very beautiful Jan and I’m happy that summer is now approaching for you Down Under. It’s so ironic that when I came back on the grid you had included a picture of your sweet, beautiful baby with you on your walk. And “my” map. Your friend, Mike 🙂
I am happy that I included a photo of Buffy (yes she is a vampire slayer) and “Your Map” Mike. Glad you are back. Jan.
Lovely photos Jan. And we have winter almost breathing down our back. At least the fall colours are still excellent.
We do not get the lovely autumn colours that you get Leigh 🙁
Happy sigh. 🙂 They are so beautiful, delicate and stunning. 🙂
