When visiting Uluru by Caravan, you might wonder if you can actually take your caravan to Uluru rock formation. The answer is Yes!
You can drive towing your caravan to Uluru, park it while you walk or cycle around the rock or visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre.
It is possible to drive right around the Uluru rock formation with your van in tow. The road is quite close to the rock and in good condition.. Stopping is only allowed in an approved parking area.
How many days to stay at Uluru.
Most people like to spend more than one day at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and if towing a van the Caravan Park in Yulara (called Ayers Rock Campground) is the place to stay.
From there it is an easy drive out to see the sights or catch a tour.
We took 21 days to get to Uluru from Townsville, but we had plenty of time to spend along the way.
If you decide to take a tour the time spent there may be decided for you.
What to do with my Dog whilst visiting the Uluru/Kata Tjuṯa National Park
- Visit the Mad Paws site and book a sitter.
- Join a local Facebook Group and ask there.
- Approach the information desk at the Ayers Rock Campground who have a list of staff who pet sit in their free time. This is what we did. It did take a little time to arrange a sitter on arrival and the Campground doesn’t give out contact numbers before arrival.

Visiting Uluru, Kata Tjuṯa, Kings Canyon and the West MacDonnell ranges instills a real understanding of and connection with this ancient and unique country.
It was one of the best experiences of our lives.
