Airbnb

When Airbnb burst onto the travel scene in 2008, it changed our travel style. At first we rented an Airbnb apartment to ourselves, but then we learned how this was negatively affecting some local renting situations.

More often than not we now share the host’s home, freeing up more homes for locals to rent.

Hvar Town Croatia Airbnb Lunch

Hosts are a generous bunch of people and just listening to their stories about everyday life, enriches our experience. It’s an amazing and sometimes surprising crash course in a country’s culture and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

We’ve stayed in apartments in New York City, Italy, Spain and Croatia.

With a convenient modern airport and cheap flights landing from Europe, Marrakech is a major destination. Take a trip to …

Why take a Taxi from Marrakech Airport to Medina? As a child I lived to read. I lived in my books and dreamt suitably exotic day-dreams, the most exciting of which was of a Morocco Adventure. I walked through souks with huge clay pots (large enough for a genie of course) and stayed in a …

Fort George was built in 1812 as the British answer to Napoleon’s advances in the Mediterranean. I doubt that Captain Henryson and his band of Vis Islanders imagined, when constructing the fort, that within a few years the British would abandon it and some two hundred years later it would be operating as an events …

Siracusa, the ancient Greek stronghold on the south-east coast of Sicily, is seductive in May. Although Spring temperatures should be mild, the stone streets and buildings of this World Heritage listed town, store and radiate the mid-day heat. Sensible locals take a long Siesta with the shutters firmly pulled down, but we cannot resist discovering more Siracusa …

We wrestled with how best to experience the Croatian capital of Zagreb.  The Airbnb apartment was booked, but besides Mirogoj Cemetery, the Cafes, wide avenues and grand buildings, our wish list was sketchy. After reading Andrea’s Croatia Honestly blog, everything just fell into place. We would do a self guided walking tour. Zagreb came to …
