Usually I am filled with dread when I enter a plane for a long haul flight. But this time I actually felt quite calm about the more than 30 hours of travel ahead of us.
Our first stop was Brisbane Airport where I took the opportunity to charge the netbook and check emails.
We flew north with the sun and somewhere around Darwin the sunset arrived and stayed with us for what seemed like forever. A magical feeling.
I LOVE THE LONG HAUL BECAUSE –
When else do I get to sit on my butt for a day and a half and get served up three course meals at regular intervals.
“And would you Iike the beef and noodles with kimchi, or the chicken and leek pie? The beer or the wine? The tea or the coffee?”
Maybe it was the beer combined with the Kwells I had taken – but I thought I was in heaven. Imagine my surprise when skulking around the aisles in a deep vein thrombosis thwarting exercise, I discovered that the hostesses provided a little self service area brimming over with Toblerones, choc chip cookies, chips, mini salami rolls, and juices.
AND –
When else would I get to sit wedged between the love of my life on my right hand side and an oh so good looking young Spanish man on my left hand side.
When we got to Milan, most people left the plane. The eighty or so passengers left were confined to the plane for an hour while it was refueled, restocked, and cleaned. We were all a bit festive, now being able to roam freely around the plane, after being cooped up for so long.
The cabin took on the air of a cocktail party. The guests stood in the aisles, draped in airline issue blankets (the 7 degree wind was whistling in through the open doorway). Chatting away we discovered that our young Spanish friend travelled the world, promoting a Spanish clothing line. That explained the smooth attire!
After take-off everyone spread out. After so many hours spent like sardines, we were now luxuriating one person to every four seats on the final leg to Barcelona. Pure Bliss.
AND –
Finally – When else do I get to watch not ONE, not TWO but THREE new release movies. No having to compromise on which one to watch, how loud it should be, and when to turn it off for a little snooze.
HELL YES – LONG HAUL TRAVEL IS THE LIFE FOR ME!

I actually don’t mind long haul flights either…Mostly because it usually means I’m headed somewhere awesome:)
I know what you mean – glad I am not the only nutter out there!
Oh now that is the way to travel….in style! Being waited on, served yummy treats, and watching new releases – LOVE the idea of travelling like that 🙂 Enjoy xx
It was lovely Lisa, and the cakes in Barcelona are yum as well. Just as well we have been walking and bike riding!
I like long-haul flights, too. I’m a total movie buff – and when else can I sit down to so many movies in a row without feeling guilty about it?!
Simon, You would be in heaven. Previously I have not watched movies, just listened to my own music. But I am a convert now! Thanks for stopping by.
