Townsville, North Queensland, Australia, is home for us. The Great Barrier Reef runs the length of Queensland, from the northern most tip to down around the Town of 1770, a distance of 2000 km.
At home we get to experience one of the great wonders of the world – exploring coral cays, coral bommies, reef fish, turtles, whales, sharks, coconut palms and tropical islands, but there is one thing we definitely do not have – surf.
Now, I am not complaining one little bit about this tropical dilemma, but while holidaying at Coolum Beach, some 280 km south of Town of 1770, it has come to my attention that things are a little different down here.
I love body surfing – fighting my way through the waves, the rush of adrenalin riding it in, and then staggering from the surf, laughing my head off.
It sure is fun not having a reef stealing all your waves!
