Tuesday in Townsville – Art in Strange Places

Since I have started the Tuesday in Townsville Series, at Budget Travel Talk, I have taken to looking at my own City in a different light.

Things that I had previously overlooked completely or at least taken for granted, take on new meaning.  This substation situated on the breakwater not far from the RED BARON SEAPLANE, and adjacent to The  Townsville Entertainment Centre, is celebrating entertainment in it’s own right.

Do you have art in strange places in your city?  If so tell me about it in Comments.

That is so colorful. Without the mural I would think that “box thingy” would be kind of ugly 🙂

True Nancie, great thinking turning an ugly box into a work of art!

This looks great. As you know, I’m a big fan of street art, especially in the lanes of Melbourne, so I often seek it out whenever I’m in a new city!

I love finding it when travelling, but at times do not even notice it at home.

Whenever my kids see street art like this they always think there is something special in the building and nag to go in! Love this work and wonder who the artist was.

I can understand them thinking that Danielle, sometimes I think it myself. I think the Council pays people to beautify otherwise boring or plain ugly structures.

Mine isn’t so much in my city, but in the high school I teach at. The art students repainted the garbage cans in the school with creative and eye-catching artwork. Unfortunately, no one told our head custodian and he complained the principal about the gang signs that had been painted on the school trash cans!

Ha – that is so funny. I hope the custodian was won over when he learned it was the work of the art students.

Its weird how much we take for granted around us – today we drove past a wall…and its done really well! Must try and get back there to take a photo.
    Love the Art Work.

I know. Marty sometimes says to me “If you were on holidays in another town you would take a photo of that”.

I was heavily involved in these murals when I worked at the Townsville City council. Some I designed, others I painted. Did you know the mural is painted on a pump house and there are 22 murals across Townsville?

I knew there were more some of which I have photographed. (A pump station or similar building opposite the Strand, The Water Tower on the hill in the city). Does the figure of 22 include all the little murals that are on light poles, etc. How long ago did you work at the Council?
